PROJECT HEAD START 1965...

Email me at ggibson@jhsph.edu if you taught or attended Head Start in 1965?

We are recognizing that poverty perpetrates itself. Five- and 6-year-old children are inheritors of the poverty curse--not its creators. Unless we act, these children will pass it on to the next generation--like a family birthmark.

--President Lyndon B. Johnson, at a White House ceremony May 18, 1965, launching Project Head Start.

WELCOME...

...It's time for a reunion of Head Start graduates.  Calling all 1965 Head Start graduates.  I'm writing a book on what you're doing and where you've been since 1965.  If you were in my class in the summer of 1965 please let me hear from you.  If you taught in Project Head Start in 1965, please get in touch.

For the students who are now 49 or 50 years old, I'd like to know three things.

  1. How did Head Start make a difference in your life?
  2. Did your children or siblings go to Head Start?
  3. Did you graduate from High School or College?
